The Japanese culture visiting the Castle of Santa Severa

ROMA – Castle of Santa Severa (Pyrgi)- a day tour that you should definitely take while visiting Rome.

Last week, on October 26, I had the chance to visit the Castle of Santa Severa with the occasion of a wonderful event, the inauguration of a very important exhibition that explores the influence the Japanese culture has had on Italian Fashion and culture called “Giapponizzati: Tales of a fashion trip” curated by Stefano Dominella. The exhibition that is hosted at the newly restored halls of the Castle until January 15, 2018 was a unique opportunity for me to go and see the magnificent place of Pyrgi.

We started this wonderful trip leaving the city at 10:00am and driving in the sunny Rome for an hour to reach the Castle that is just 60km away from the heart of the city. With so much to see in Rome it is hard to tear yourself away but the history of this Castle into the Lazio Region is a true magnet for visitors and real-life explorers.

The Castle of Santa Severa and the archaeological site of Pyrgi are considered some of the most important historical-archaeological areas along the Tyrrenhian coast. The favorable environmental conditions were probably one of the reasons why a fixed landing place was established already in prehistoric times and frequented in the Neolithic phase, in the Bronze Age and in the Iron Age while in the Etruscan phase, Pyrgi, connected to Caere by a monumental road, was with no doubt an important commercial port with traffic from all the Mediterranean basin and especially by Greeks and Phoenicians.

The Castle and the Civitas of Santa Severa were established on the high-medieval base. The Museum of the Castle of Santa Severa that is in the village next to the castle is a definite must see since it gives a profound view of the place’s history and development over the centuries.

The feeling of being in this magnificent spot of history was for everyone who visited the same. A sense of peace while reviving the lives of those who lived there some many centuries ago. The view from the windows of the castle is breathtaking and especially on a sunny day while you are inside the castle you are astonished by the light and the sun reflections to the sea clear proof that this castle was an observatory. Do not miss this view for any reason and take as many pictures as possible.

Next thing you need to do after completing the visit at the Castle is to enjoy the wonderful beach with the gold sand and lie on the sun until the afternoon or even have a pick nick there. Take your shoes out and walk along the beach while observing the castle on the top. Connect your existence with this historical place and you will have an unforgettable life experience.

I would strongly suggest that you grasp the opportunity to visit the Castle while the Giapponizzati exhibition is taking place – up to January 15th, 2018- and enjoy the inspiring creations of almost 40 fashion designers, accompanied by wonderful music coming from Maria Callas’ performances.

Designers that are taking part at the exhibition include names such as Antonio Marras, Gattinoni, Comme des Garçons, Maurizio Galante, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto as well as some of the most hopeful new designers including Tiziano Guardini (winner of the Green Carpet Awards), Italo Marseglia, Ivan Donev, Santo Costanzo, Alessandra Giannetti, Silvia Giovanardi and Tommaso Fux.

Personally i would say that it was spotless! Inspiring, very well organized, and the set up of the exhibition extremely well planned and with strategic thinking! I hope this responds to your question.
